Review | Do Or Die – Resurrection [EP]
Independent Release
Some bands never truly die; they wait for the right moment to strike again. Belgian hardcore veterans Do Or Die decided that this moment is now! After years of silence, the band that carved its name into the European hardcore realms, storms back into the spotlight with their brand-new EP `Resurrection’. It’s not just a comeback; a reminder that the fire that fuelled their rise at the turn of the millennium still burns scorching, and the years have only sharpened their edge.
RECONNECTING WITH AN OLD FRIEND
The first spin of `Resurrection’ is like reconnecting with an old friend who you drifted apart from, feeling comfortable and the years worn well. Opener ,,Lust & Power” kicks the door wide open with its roaring guitars, brooding bass, and its unmistakable bark of dual vocals. It’s a sonic punch that hits with the same urgency as their earliest work, but with the precision of a very well-seasoned unit that knows how to construct a solid track. This is hardcore with sheer metallic muscle: grooves slamming down ferociously, breakdowns demanding immediate mosh pit-movement, and daunting hooks that cling to memory long after the turbulence and turmoil fades. It revives the bounce with swagger and intensity, with the production discharging in-your-face urgence.
MUSICAL CRAFTSMANSHIP
Across its six tracks, the EP balances raw aggression with an impressive sense of musical craftsmanship. The guitars are scorching their riffs atop the groove, with muscular licks and solos slicing to the front. The bass guitar anchors the groove with the drums laying down its ponderous foundation. Take ,,Alka”, that grooves with swagger, its riff working and rhythmic pulse engineered for instant crowd response and fists raised. The spin off to the title track, ,,Resurrected”, blends sharp guitar lines with a chorus that feels like a call to arms. The rousing accolades are gripping, renouncing the band’s return with an exclamation mark. The secret weapon of Do Or Die has always been their melodic marksmanship. Those little moments of catchiness that cut through the heaviness, and here, it’s delivered with sniper precision. In its brooding mayhem it sneaks up to you and nests immediately.
THE PRODUCTION
The production gives every element room to breathe without losing grit, grounding the songs with the honest live atmosphere present on their `Trinacria’ album. Its momentum is gripping and packs tremendous energy. The drums crack like gunfire, bass lines rumble like an oncoming tank, and the guitars carve a jagged path for the vocals to dominate. The interaction between Chris and Angelo is perfect and the ‘duels’ add the right amount of swagger needed to inflate the songs. Its musicality and prowess are well aligned, making the songs nest easy.
The EP closing with ,,Mental Strength”, making their 25+ long spanning career going full circle. The track encapsulates resilience, aggression, and anthemic drive in one tight, hard‑hitting package full of energy.
DO OR DIE – THE CONCLUSION
`Resurrection’ is lean and mean, lethal and brutal, and true to the core Do Or Die. It doesn’t chase trends or try to reinvent the wheel, it stays true to its roots, blending `Pray for Them’ and `Heart full of Pain’ with the modernity of the present. This is the sound of a band reclaiming its place with true conviction. For long-time fans, it’s a reminder of why they love this band, and for newcomers, it’s a crash course in metallic hardcore at its best.
DO OR DIE is Resurrected!
