Review | Danko Jones – Leo Rising
Sonic Unyon
In case you do not know Danko Jones, which I beg to differ, he plays no-nonsense straight ahead hard rock with obvious punk and garage rock influences galore. So, what you see, a guitarist/vocalist, bass player and drummer, is what you get. No gimmicks, no bullshit, all action and just play your ass off.
MARTY FRIEDMAN
‘Leo Rising’, Danko Jones’ 12th studio album, features eleven sharp in your face tracks. Songs packed with riffs, hooks, and volume. The opening track, called ,,What You Need” sets the tone for this not very surprising album, as it sounds punky, and features up tempo riffs, and lots of energy for sure. Follow up ,,Diamonds In The Rough” is one of the best tracks featured on this album and it has a cameo from master guitarist Marty Friedman. His solo takes this track to a higher musical level. ,,I Love It Louder” is another highlight here. With excellent riffs galore, galloping tempos and this one will become a Danko Jones live staple in the future for sure.
RUN OF THE MILL
However, after a couple of tracks you might get a bit bored, as most of the songs sound too familiar or are just sheer mediocre tracks. Take for example ,,I’m Going Blind” or ,,Pretty Stuff”, which are both rather run of the mill compositions, which make you want to skip those immediately…. However, ,,Gotta Let It Go” is another typical Danko Jones earworm that you cannot get out of your head, even if you want to….
DANKO JONES – THE CONCLUSION
So, overall, ‘Leo Rising’ offers no great surprises, but if you like the music of Danko Jones, John Calabrese (bass guitar) and Rick Knox (drums), then this is a must have album if you want to party and rock and roll.
Needless to say, that you must play this entire album LOUD!!
