Review | The Black Crowes – A Pound Of Feathers
Silver Arrow Records
Although The Black Crowes are NOT a heavy metal or hard rock band, I always liked their albums. And especially in the flesh The Crowes were a hugely impressive band. Featuring the brothers Chris and Rich Robinson strutting’ their stuff on stage as a 100% rock machine for sure. As for their records my only Crowes albums in my record collection are ‘By Your Side’ and the notorious Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes live album ‘Live At The Greek’.
ROCK ALBUM
Their new album is called ‘A Pound Of Feathers’ and it is a wonderful rock album, packed with heavy, dirty, bluesy, electrifying, soulful and soaring tracks. So again, great songs to hear in the flesh for sure. The raw and very recognisable vocals are again a treat to everyone’s rock ears and sound so f…. familiar and good indeed.
LIVE STAPLE
,,Doomsday Doggerel”, the last track of the album is one of my favourites. It has a very catchy chorus and that track will be a live staple for sure, as the crowd can shout along to that one endlessly. ,,Profane Prophecy” is the first single of the album. It is a funky and hard rocking song, a song that you must play LOUD to fully enjoy. ,,Cruel Streak”, another of my favourites is extremely groovy and it features a choir, while ,,Pharmacy Chronicles” is dominated by acoustic guitar chords, a soul-like melody, and a formidable epic refrain. ,,Queen Of The B-Sides” highlights some great slide guitar work, while ,,It’s Like That” features some reggae rhythms and R&B musical characteristics.
THE BLACK CROWES – THE CONCLUSION
The mix of blues, soul and rock on this new Crowes album works perfectly and I would really recommend it to anyone who likes to rock in a hard place.
So, get ‘A Pound Of Feathers’ as quickly as possible, put the record on, turn the volume up and enjoy!!
