MAGNUS KARLSSON'S FREEFALL-Kingdom Of Rock

Frontiers Music srl

06 November 2015 by Michel van de Moosdijk

Magnus Karlsson is an important musician for the Frontiers label during the last ten years or so. He has worked on albums with groups like Starbreaker, Allen/Lande and Primal Fear (just to name a few). Free Fall is his own project together with drummer Jamie Salazar. Magnus himself takes care of the rest (bass, guitars, keyboards). Because he worked with so many people through the years it must have been pretty easy for him to contact giants like Jorn Lande, Joe Lynn Turner, Harem Scarem’s Harry Hess, David Readman (Pink Cream 69), Jakob Samuel (The Poodles), Rick Altzi (Masterplan), Tony Harnell (TNT, Starbreaker and now working with Skid Row) and Tony Martin (Black Sabbath) to help on the vocal department. Magnus himself contributes lead vocals as well on a couple of tracks and not too bad either. With so much talent on board ‘Kingdom Of Rock’ is easy accessible for fans of metal and heavy rock. The material is melodic but always heavy. Especially the title song (by Jorn Lande) and ,,Out Of The Dark’’ (Jakob Samuel) rock your socks off.  ,,Out Of The Dark’’ would have fitted on any of the last two Primal Fear releases. It is great to hear Tony Martin again (,,When The Sky Falls’’) and I am also pleased to hear Tony Harnell is fighting fit after his illness. Magnus can be satisfied on what he has achieved with this CD. It is a fine and lasting album!
