Today's topic is VINYL.
Now for you old timers out there that know what I'm talking about, do you miss it? I do, as CD's seem very impersonal. This tiny little circle of plastic that more resembles a coaster than something that holds lord knows how many gig of information that reproduces itself in sound waves that you then recognize as your favourite tune. Sing-along, sing-along. I prefer vinyl, it has so much more character, quality and authenticity plus you can look at an album cover without having to squint, let alone read the credits for which you need a magnifying glass. You can hear the crackle and hiss when the needle hits. Now for many of you youngsters, who more than likely have no idea as to what I'm talking about, ask your parents? Everything has now gone onto a mobile phone; music, films, games, information, you name it, and it’s all there. So why cart around all this junk when you can have it in your pocket? I'm not sure you get a true representation of what the music is supposed to sound like if the only medium you have is your phone. Having a collection of vinyl is priceless, especially if you get first editions or imports, and now it seems to be making a comeback. You can't beat a good old fashioned hi fi with a quality amp, speakers and turntable, oh and not forgetting a stylus, or needle as you might put it. Things go in circles and cycles so I must ask the question, what's next? For those of you who have never experienced the wonders of this happy and collectable medium, I highly recommend it, as you will not be sorry. I have a great collection of vinyl that I more than likely could never replace, so I cherish what I have and long may it last.
Good listening and enjoy my friends.
