Review | Emerald Moon – The Sky’s The Limit

Independent Release

Classic rock with a touch of blues, a whole lot of soul in the singing coming from France. The group Emerald Moon started out in 2024 and quickly released the 4-track EP ‘Phase One’ by themselves. It seems that with that EP the band, consisting of female singer Vanessa Di Mauro, the guitarists Fabrice Dutour and Michaal Benjelloun, bass player Francois Delacoudre plus drummer Laurent Falso, did not manage to secure a permanent record deal. So they decided to release their first full CD/LP via their own website (in case you should be interested in acquiring this product, this is the website to visit).

MIXING IT UP

On the twelve track-record the quintet is mixing it up. Although the accent is clearly on classic rock (with obvious influences from Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and in the harmonious guitar work a clear nod towards Thin Lizzy) the band flirts every now and then with a touch of blues rock. While singer Vanessa Di Mauro displays a soulful voice that at stages might make you think of Beth Hart or the legendary Janis Joplin (although Vanessa sounds ‘less’ rough). The emotion she puts in her performance is at times just breath taking with the title-track, the acoustic flavoured ,,Shrinking Violet’’ and the bluesy ballad rocker ,,Worry’’ as most prolific examples.

VARIETY

Also tracks such as opener ,,Rock’n’Roll Soul’’, ,,Devil Woman’’ and ,,Bad Mood’’ are quite interesting because of their high energy and the interaction between the guitarists Benjelloun and Dutour, guys that have been around the block in the French scene. Closer ,,Hummingbird (Waiting To Come Home)’’ is an acoustic based easy listening track that adds to the variety displayed by this French outfit.

EMERALD MOON – THE CONCLUSION

As I already mentioned above this record (that came out in the summer of 2025) is self-released by Emerald Moon and there are several clips to be found on YouTube (,,Worry’’ for instance) so you can get an impression of what these folks are all about. I like this record as it sounds very honest, it is well produced, it has got some excellent songs and the musicianship is fine all around. Emerald Moon is one of the many examples of bands out there that do things their way. ‘The Sky’s The Limit’ is an entertaining heavy rock record with different flavours and integrity!
