Review | Firstborne – Lucky

M-Theory Audio

The line-up of this power trio is certainly interesting, to say at least. On vocals we have power house Girish Pradhan (Girish And The Chronicles, The End Machine), on drums former Lamb Of God and Megadeth basher Chris Adler while L.A. based guitarist Myrone tortures his six-string guitar. Apparently, this is the debut album on which the band has worked on since 2023, but from that same year there is also an independent release of this band entitled ‘Gods Of Fire’ streaming around. I am not familiar with those recordings. ‘Lucky’ seems to be the first one going to be released on CD, vinyl, and stream, so let us concentrate on that.

BIG SOUND, BIG VOLUME

People that are familiar with the voice of Girish Pradhan know that this dude has a huge reach. The man has a big sound and a big volume. He has found two kindred spirits in Adler who is a metal drummer with an impressive career. Guitarist Myrone might not be so well known with a big audience but this man has also built up a handsome career contributing parts to the Rock Of Ages project, as one of his main releases. He is known as a ‘soft shredder’, whatever the hell that means. That the dude can play is something that becomes evident as you listen to the album.

STYLE

This is not stuff suited for the soft-hearted rocker. This band explodes song after song. The style could be described as classic rock delivered at high speed and with huge intensity. In their approach Firstborne has some similarities with the old Van Halen and Deraps. Not that Firstborne is just a copycat, as the songs certainly show signs of an own identity. The song ,,Shine’’ is for me a prime example of what this group can do. Exciting, groovy, huge guitar solo and a certain suspense in the built up with Girish going all out with that superb voice. But with the above made comparison you should have some idea what to expect from this trio.

FIRSTBORNE – THE CONCLUSION

This album has a bunch of cracking and hard rocking songs to be discovered by you. It is not that the song constructions are over complicated, some tracks have been kept simple but they certainly do not lack any power or a packing punch This is old fashioned guitar driven hard rock with a big touch of metal and a guitarist that at the exact moments manages to make the difference and create some overdrive. And the fact that Girish has that huge vocal capacity that not many singers have is also a huge bonus.

There are certainly no fillers on this ten-track album. It is a power trip, one that will make the fillings in your teeth shake from time to time. I am not the type to say that this should be played at maximum volume but for once I might make an exemption. Crank up this little hard and heavy monster, and get in the groove!
