Review | Jet Jaguar – Severance

Steamhammer/SPV

Five years after their debut album ‘Endless Nights’ Jet Jaguar, the now four-piece band from Mexico, come back strong with their new album called ‘Severance’. The Jet Jaguar fold has changed over the years, as this Mexican metal quartet now consists of founding member Jimmy Lozano (drums), Ariyuki Saddler (lead guitar), Jorge ‘Bori’ Ramirez (bass guitar) and newcomer Raiden Lozenthall (lead vocals, guitar).

SOARING GUITAR SOLOS

The new tracks on ‘Severance’ are all strong, powerful, classic metal/hard rock songs, reminding me of the early eighties and nineties metal period. ,,Eternal Light” is the opening track, and this one obviously sets the tone for the rest of the album, as it is a real up-tempo metal track with heavy riffs and lots of soaring guitar solos.

,,Mach 10” is again a classic heavy metal song with obvious Megadeth characteristics, while ,,Anthropocene”, the highlight of this album, is an eight-minute metal “monster”, bringing back the good old days of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.

JET JAGUAR – THE CONCLUSION

The new singer’s throat definitely gives the new song material additional depth, seeing the fact that Lozenthall’s voice is more flexible, as his voice is melodic, but it also includes death metal grunts. The sound of the new Jet Jaguar album is powerful produced and that these guys can play and manage their instruments is noticeably clear. The music of Jet Jaguar offers nothing new; it is 100% classic heavy metal without taking any risks whatsoever.

However, for fans of explosive, classic guitar driven heavy metal, Jet Jaguar is a band to win countless metal battles with this new album. So check it out and play it LOUD.
