Review | Philosophobia – The Constant Void
Sensory Records
Three years ago, Philosophobia released their amazing debut album, and it was a must have album for fans of prog metal in the veins of bands like Kamelot, Pain Of Salvation, Threshold, Dream Theater and Pagan’s Mind. Philosophobia’s sophomore album is called ‘The Constant Void’ and in my humble opinion this one is even better than their debut.
MUSICAL ROLLER COASTER
On this new album, original bass player Kristoffer Gildenlöw is replaced by Sebastian Heuckmann (who has been playing live with the band since 2024). The rest of the band still consists of Andreas Ballnus (guitar), Alex Landenburg (drums), Tobias Weissgerber (keyboards) and singer Domenik Papaemmanouil. The lead single of this new album called ,,King Of Fools” sets the tone for the rest of the album, as it is a high speed musical roller coaster combining everything Philosophobia stands for; meaning: raw, powerful prog metal with furious guitar riffing, tight keyboard walls and a stunning vocal performance.
TWISTS AND TURNS
Follow up ,,The Forgotten Part 1” is an eight-minute prog metal opus with a heavy and fast opening sequence that makes you want to bang your head for sure while ,,Inside His Room” has as a more traditional kind of guitar riffing. ,,F.40.8” is again a very heavy song with lots of pure dark tones and dominating heavy bass guitar riffs. But Philosophobia saves the best for last as ,,The Forgotten Part 2” is the absolute highlight of this album, being a true prog metal monster. That final cut, clocking in over twenty minutes of this amazing album offers lots of musical twists and turns, turning ,,The Forgotten Part 2” into a memorable prog metal song combining the best of what prog metal has to offer indeed.
PHILOSOPHOBIA – THE CONCLUSION
With this amazing new album under its belt Philosophobia will definitely be the most talked about new progressive metal band!! Play it LOUD, listening tip: ,,King Of Fools.”
