FITNESS AT HOME

Hello there my good friends and how are you this week? Are you still enduring the lockdown? One scientist said that it’s actually caused more deaths! Anyway, enough of that!

How does one stay in shape during this incarceration? Seeing as many may have become couch spuds, then best get up and do something about it if you wish. One can pile on the pounds or kilos if one does nothing other than sit and watch Netflix all day! Who, me?
If you think that there are numerous ways to stay trim. For instance try standing whilst using your laptop or PC as weight baring exercises do give your heart something more to do as we sit far too much! Using the stairs, I love this as I’ll do ten runs, up down up down until I can’t feel my legs or my heart is going to burst! Step ups, for those of you who may fear that you may drop down dead after the last exercise. These must be done within your own limits of course and not taken to the extremes I have! I would train four nights a week and then play football on Saturday and Sunday, boxing, Taekwondo, swimming and then football. Then ice hockey, skating four nights a week to the point where once again, I couldn’t feel my legs, and though I don’t do that now it has actually kept me in good condition up to this moment. If you are able to do press ups, sit ups or leg raises, these can really help tone the stomach and shoulders after all those pizzas as the body needs resistance, and yes, you couldn’t resist that pizza! Diet has a big part to play, there are foods that heal and foods that harm, and it’s best to stay away from those that harm! You all know what they are. In fact I shouldn’t even have to be giving you this information, it’s all there at the tip of your fingers, quite literally!

Stretching is also important as you don’t wish to seize up, gently to begin with, but would you believe that there are people out there who have never done any exercise in their lives? Wow, how do you manage that, I couldn’t live without it! There are online Pilates and yoga and keep fit and extreme fitness classes that you don’t have to leave the comfort of your front room. One could now become a hermit, just think, everything can now be done online, shopping, dating, keep fit and a host of other activities. For those of you who have the luxury of a step or running machine, then I envy you, but how much dust has it collected over the past months? Then best dust it off and get to it. As you all know I like to make stuff out of old wood, so using a hand saw and planer really does work the shoulders, and whilst out in the sun working so I’m using up a lot of energy and I’m getting my daily dose of vitamin D. All of this is really common sense, but as I said, I’ve been doing this a long time, pounded my body for years to the point that I am paying for it with numerous injuries, but that’s the price you pay, as everything comes with a price tag attached to it, it just depends on whether you’re willing to pay it or not. Stay healthy and do take it slow and easy to begin with as you could do yourself more harm than good.
