Live | Glenn Hughes – The Chosen Years Tour – Muziekgieterij – Maastricht [NL]
19 September 2025
A couple of weeks ago Glenn Hughes released his new studio album called ‘Chosen’, his fifteenth solo album and surely it is one of his best, as the voice of rock proves that he still is one of the best rock/blues vocalists of this planet! Now, Hughes, is promoting his new album with the so-called ‘Chosen Years Tour’ and the setlist will consist of old Hughes classics, Trapeze songs, Black Country Communion songs, brand-new songs from the `Chosen’ album and a couple of surprises….
POWER TRIO

The power trio that hits the stage in Maastricht, consists of Ash Sheehan (drums), Soren Anderson (guitar, backing vocals) and the maestro himself on bass guitar and mean vocals. The first song from the impressive setlist is an “oldie,” as ,,Soul Mover”, the title track of Hughes’ tenth studio album, is already ten years old, but it still is a groovy, rocking’ track and a perfect opener for this gig indeed.
Follow up song ,,Muscle And Blood” from the Hughes/Thrall album, way back from 1982, is the first surprise song of tonight’s gig; and although this song is already forty-three years old, it still stands the test of time. Then it is time for the first new track called ,,Voice In My Head”, the opening track of Glenn’s new album ‘Chosen’ and this amazing track gives me the first goosebumps of this evening; what a superb track and Glenn’s vocals here absolutely deliver the goods for 100%.
BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION

,,One Last Soul”, the first Black Country Communion track of this evening, is another highlight of the setlist and Anderson’s guitar work is as flawless as that of Bonamassa for sure. After the second song from ‘Chosen,’ ,,Into The Fade’’ it is time for two songs from Hughes’ first band Trapeze. ,,Way Back To The Bone” (1996) and especially ,,Medusa”, the title track of Trapeze’s second album from 1970, is a real gem; with immaculate vocals from the voice of rock.
The second surprise of this evening is the song ,,Grace”, a track from Tony Iommi’s second solo album ‘Fused’ (2005), which is followed by the phenomenal title track of Hughes’s newest album, one of the best rock albums of 2025 for sure! The regular gig ends with ,,Stay Free”; the second BCC song of tonight’s show and Hughes shows again what he is capable of here; vocal-wise second to none indeed!
GLENN HUGHES – THE CONCLUSION

The encores, starting with an acoustic version of the Trapeze song ,,Coast To Coast”, followed by one of the best Black Country Communion tracks ,,Black Country” are again wonderful musical surprises indeed. Finally, the crowd is treated to a steaming, rocking version of the Deep Purple classic ,,Burn,” the title track of their eighth studio album, released way back in 1974!
And so, this fantastic hard rock/blues rock evening finally comes to an end, and it was utterly amazing to hear how incredibly wonderful Glenn, aged seventy-four, can still sing!!! The only thing I can complain about is the fact that Hughes only played three songs from his new album ‘Chosen’….
