BLACK STONE CHERRY-Black To Blues II

Provogue/Mascot Label Group

Some two years ago Black Stone Cherry delivered their first ‘Black To Blues’ EP and that was quite a pleasant encounter between traditional blues and a band that just embraces that kind of music. The blues rock influences have always been important to the band as they also showed on their 2018 full album ‘Family Tree’. Now guitarist/singer Chris Robertson and his mates present another six old blues songs originally performed by people like Howlin’ Wolf, Freddie King, Otis Rush, Elmore James, Robert Johnson and Son House, put them in a blender and added their own Black Stone Cherry ingredients to the tracks. Energy, more aggression, heavier guitars to say it in one word, the band has added ‘balls’ to the mix. And that is how you bring those old songs like ,,Big Legged Woman’’, ,,Me & The Devil Blues’’, ,,All Your Love (I Miss Loving)’’, ,,Down In The Bottom’’, ,,Early One Morning’’ and ,,Death Letter Blues’’ back to life and give them a new lease as well. Through the whole EP there is also a prominent role for keyboardist Yates Mckendree, who for this occasion was added to the band line-up. His input puts a lot of flavour to the songs. Add to that the gritty voice of Chris Robertson plus the energetic approach of the whole group and you have a ‘modern’ sounding blues rock EP that shall add more praise to the achievements of Black Stone Cherry. If you like the first ‘Black To Blues’ EP you will adore the second one as well.
