MARK MORTON-Anesthetic

Spinefarm Records

Does the world really need a solo album by a dude who plays guitar in Lamb Of God? Probably not, but do we need a smart phone? Netflix? A triple cheese burger? No, but it’s still cool to have it. Mark Morton surely is making a statement here: he’s not only a riff monster but one of the most diverse guitar players of our time. On his first ever solo record called ‘Anesthetic’ you can hear the full skill set of Mark Morton collaborating with an unbelievable amount of other artists such as Chester Bennington (Linkin Park), Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach), Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees), Chuck Billy (Testament), Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge), Mark Morales (Sons Of Texas), Josh Todd (Buckcherry), Naeehman Maddox and a duet between Randy Blythe (Lamb Of God) and Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy). So alone by the list of participants you can tell, it’s not a straight heavy metal album, although you can tell, which band Mark is coming from. Especially the tracks with Mark Lanegan or Naeemah Maddox stand out and would never fit on a Lamb Of God album for sure and that’s what makes this album so good. It is not a compilation of left over songs but an album with pure soul, energy and passion. You can hear that it took him a while to fine tune these songs. Definitely not only for Lamb Of God collectors but for every rock fan in general. If you’re not convinced by now, just read again through the names of vocalists on this record…now stop reading and go buy the album
