It is that my nephew Maurice Kusters a.k.a. Riddlebox posted a song of the new Nashville Pussy CD on Facebook otherwise I probably would not have noticed their sixth CD ‘Pleased To Eat You’. I just took pot luck and ordered the CD via Amazon Australia and to my surprise within two days it was delivered. These Atlanta based US rockers formed around singer/guitarist Blaine Cartwright and his wife Ruyter Suys (guitar) are already around for a cool 22 years playing a loud combination between hard rock, southern rock, a taste of punk and sleaze rock and present themselves as an bunch of rowdy and raunchy noise makers travelling all over the world, spreading the rock and roll message all over in an energetic manner, taking no prisoners, singing about the good things in life like booze, sex, drugs and rock and roll. ‘Pleased To Eat You’ features 13 raunchy rock and roll songs [plus a comic speech at the end] on which Suys blasts away with her groovy riffs and solos, Cartwright screams his lungs out of his body he is technically not a great singer but he somehow gets it across] while the latest recruits Bonnie ‘Bon’ Buitrago [bass] and Ben Thomas [drums] keep up the groove and pace. The music of Nashville Pussy is simple, yet effective, in your face and lyric wise any subject is fair game and given the Nashville Pussy treatment. I have enjoyed this record. It might sound a bit one dimensional at times but there are several songs that just have that little bit of extra like ,,Woke Up This Morning’’, a track that could have been on a Rose Tattoo album with Suys excelling on the slide-guitar. Or the opener ,,She Keeps Me Coming And I Keep Going Back’’ with very cheeky lyrics. Oh yeah, the cover and inlay poster of this CD are pretty special as well. The poster is presented as a menu card with a full size menu presented by Col. Blaine Cartwright with appetizers, main dishes, world famous sides and specials. Who can say no to good food and good rock and roll?
