Review | Primal Fear – Domination

Reigning Phoenix Music

Two years ago, I reviewed `Code Red’ the 14th studio album of Primal Fear and my overall impression then was that there were no musical surprises whatsoever, but now after a recent line-up change ‘Domination’ sounds definitely better. The Teutonic heavy power metal of Primal Fear is back with a vengeance and so you can enjoy the incredible soaring vocals of Ralf Scheepers, the earth-shaking riffs and hooks of Magnus Karlsson and newcomer Thalia Bellazecca and the familiar power metal anthems.

THE SONGS

‘Domination,’ Primal Fear’s 15th studio album kicks off with ,,The Hunter”, a classic power metal track with stunning vocal melodies and pumping riffs galore. Follow up ,,Destroyer” is packed with shredding riffs, while ,,Far Away” is a 100% melodic power metal song with excellent guitar work by newcomer Bellazecca. ,,Tears Of Fire” is dominated by the high-pitched vocals of Scheepers, while ,,Heroes And Gods” is another classic power metal anthem for sure.

,,Hallucinations” is an instrumental melodic song with beautiful twin guitars and a wonderful guitar melody, which is followed by the best song of this album called ,,Eden”. The latter, clocking in over seven minutes, is a dark and emotional power ballad led by Scheepers’ emotional and passionate vocals. ,,Scream,” ,,Crossfire” and ,,March Boy March” are again typical up tempo Primal Fear songs featuring razor-edged guitar riffs, speedy guitar solos, and piercing vocals.

PRIMAL FEAR – THE CONCLUSION

Finally, Primal Fear ends this album with the weakest song for sure, which is called ,,A Tune I Won’t Forget”; a melancholic, dull ballad with a violin and piano intro that I certainly would like to forget….

Conclusion: ‘Domination’ is a classic, must have Primal Fear album as this one is their strongest album in recent years; a strong addition to Primal Fear’s discography.

Needless to say, you must play it LOUD; listening tip: ,,Destroyer.”
