Live | Doro – Burg Wilhelmstein [Freilichtbuhne] – Würselen [DE]

14 August 2025

Doro Pesch and her band were supposed to take it easy in 2025, as far as performances were concerned. But it seems that nothing could be further from the truth. The band is still on quite a few festival posters, and this performance at this beautiful location was also on the program.

A LITTLE HISTORY

Wilhelmstein Castle was built around 1300 as a border fortress by Count Wilhelm von Jülich. In Germanic times, the Wurmbach, on whose eastern bank the castle was built on a rocky outcrop, formed the border between the Jülichgau and the Maasgau. Today, from the Bardenberg district, a shady avenue leads first to the preserved outer bailey with its round tower – formerly a dungeon – and Gothic archway. The outer bailey was originally protected by a moat. The role of the drawbridge chain can still be seen today. Nowadays, Wilhelmstein Castle houses not only the open-air theatre but also a popular restaurant, which is run by the owner of the grounds and not by the theatre.

WARMING-UP

And now it was Doro’s turn to perform in this beautiful setting. After a short warm-up by Doro guitarist Bill Hudson, who played a few guitaraoke covers [Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden & Judas Priest]. Accompanied by the backing tracks on the laptop, he provided the vocals and solo melodies on guitar. Funny, but for me, the show could have just started without this, or they could have played some more music instead.

DORO BAND

After this warm-up, the entire Doro band took to the stage, and fortunately, the real show began, allowing nearly 1.000 people (the approximate capacity of the Freilichtbühne) to enjoy a special show. Since the theatre setting is all seating, everyone sat nicely. This seemed a bit strange to the frontwoman at a metal concert, and during the first song ,,Time For Justice”, she urged the audience to stand up.

The sound was excellent, and the band and Doro herself were clearly eager to make it a memorable event. Naturally, a variety of Doro/Warlock classics were performed, but the new single ,,Warriors Of The Sea” was also played. During the anthem ,,Für Immer”, Ms. Pesch went into the audience and did the same during the other anthem, ,,All We Are”.

DORO – THE CONCLUSION

Both the audience and the band had a great evening on Thursday, August 14th. The beer supply was completely depleted, which is quite an accomplishment on a Thursday evening at this beautiful location.

Conclusion: EVERYONE enjoyed a beautiful summer evening and went home with a big smile on their face. Even though the show was shorter than a usual Doro show [due to a time curfew].
