Live | Myles Kennedy (support: Massive Wagons) – Effenaar – Eindhoven [NL]

16 June 2025

On a beautiful sunny Monday, it was time again to drive to the beautiful Effenaar in Eindhoven. This time to see a solo show by Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy. In support of his top received latest solo record ‘The Art Of Letting Go’ he was on the road at various festivals, as well as some headlining gigs, like this one at the Effenaar.

That the good man has a loyal fan base may be obvious when you see the long queue for the venue to open. Many fans are dressed in merch of Myles or Alter Bridge and are eager to enter the venue.

SUPPORT ACT: MASSIVE WAGONS

Even during support Massive Wagons, the Effenaar was already pretty full. This band was a nice introduction to the harder music genre, but personally these gentlemen could not touch me with their music. Soul of the band is vocalist Baz Mills, a man who cannot stand still on stage. A real whirlwind, but even he only gets a moderate reaction from the audience. Despite all the band’s enthusiasm, they didn’t impress much. In fact, after a few songs I was kind of done with it.

HEADLINER: MYLES KENNEDY

So the party really only starts when the main act of the evening takes the stage. Myles Kennedy is not only celebrated as a band member of Alter Bridge, but also as a solo artist he manages to almost sell out the Effenaar on a Monday night. The man may be mainly known for his great voice and range, but as a guitarist he knows how to strike the right chords and may well be counted among the better guitar gods walking around our planet.

For me this show was a succession of high quality musicianship. In addition to Myles, the trio was completed by bassist Tim Tournier and drummer Zia Uddin, also two über-talented musicians. These three managed to put down a massive sound.

They kicked off with ,,Nothing More To Gain’‘ and the title track, ,,The Art Of Letting Go’’, from his latest solo album. But this evening we could enjoy a cross-section of all his solo work to date and some cover songs.

Cover one was a Johnny Cash style acoustic version of the Iron Maiden classic ,,The Trooper’’. Nice for the interactive with the enthusiastic audience. But surely the real highlights were his own work and the wonderful performance of the Alter Bridge classic ,,Watch Over You’’.

MYLES KENNEDY – THE CONCLUSION

Myles Kennedy found the perfect balance between technical virtuosity and warm interaction in this setting. The mix of solo material, Alter Bridge classics and surprising covers made the show a layered and expansive experience.

With his four octave range, tight band (Tim and Zia) and sparkling performance, Myles once again showed why he is one of today’s most beloved rock vocalists.

A beautiful Monday night in Eindhoven and fans who could go home with a big smile.
