Review | Dream Evil – Metal Gods
Century Media Records
After a hiatus of seven years the Swedish heavy metal band Dream Evil are back with their seventh studio album called ‘Metal Gods’ (hello, Judas Priest??). If you take a look at the titles of the new Dream Evil tracks, like ,,Lightning Strikes”, ,,Born In Hell” or ,,Night Stalker”, you probably know what you can expect. Right? So, straightforward heavy power metal it is and do not expect more. In the veins of their country mates Sabaton, Dream Evil brings you powerful heavy metal anthems galore. The line-up, consisting of Niklas Isfeldt [vocals], Fredrik Nordstrom [guitars], Markus Fristedt [guitars] and Peter Stalfors [bass guitar], also features the new drummer Soren Fardvik, making this powerhouse band complete and at full force.
A TRIP DOWN HEAVY METAL LANE
This album may lack originality, but songs like ,,Night Stalker”, ,,The Tyrant Dies At Dawn” or ,,Lightning Strikes” definitely belong to the best songs that Dream Evil ever recorded, as they are “just” plain damned good heavy metal power tracks, which sound great especially when you play them f… LOUD! The title track, also the single, is lyrically speaking a trip down heavy metal lane as shouter Nikolas Isfeldt sings about classic heavy metal albums that influenced his musical career/journey, so check that one out.
DREAM EVIL – THE CONCLUSION
Unfortunately, songs like ,,Born In Hell” or ,,Y.A.N.A.’’, a truly predictable semi-ballad, are, at least to me, just fillers and therefore I would say that the second part of this album is definitely weaker than the first half. But overall, ‘Metal Gods’ is a decent power metal album, Dream Evil gives the fans what they want and of course the production work by Fredrik Nordstrom is excellent.
