Review | Textures – Genotype

Kscope Music

In 2018 the Dutch band Textures decided to call it a day, as they officially announced their disbandment in that year. However, luckily for the fans and the music business, Textures is back with a new album. Their sixth, called ‘Genotype’ featuring eight brand-new tracks.

CHARLOTTE WESSELS

This notorious Dutch prog/modern metal band, with influences from Tesseract, is truly back with a vengeance. After the rather predictable, dull, intro called ,,Void” the listener gets treated to a bombastic new Textures song called ,,At The Edge Of Winter”, featuring lots of electronics and an amazing chorus hook. The fantastic guest vocals of Charlotte Wessels (ex-Delain) add another great musical level to this song!

GRUNTS AND CROONS

,,Vanishing Twin” is again a heavy track, sometimes reminding me of Leprous, while the final track ,,Walls Of The Soul” is a rather exotic song with impressive guitar riffs galore. Also worth mentioning of course is the excellent performance of vocalist Daniel de Jongh, as his grunts and croons are almost immaculate, and let’s also not forget the miraculously well-playing drummer Stef Broks, who certainly adds something special to the bombastic and heavy sound of Textures.

A GREAT COMEBACK

Overall, a great “comeback” from this notorious Dutch metal band, as ‘Genotype’ comes highly recommended. Needless to say that you must play this LOUD!!!
