Review | Saxon – Eagles Over Hellfest

Silver Lining Music

With twenty-four studio albums and twelve live albums under their belts Saxon is truly one of the most successful metal bands on this planet. ‘Eagles Over Hellfest’, recorded at the French Hellfest festival in 2024, is again a must have album for Saxon and true heavy metal fans. ‘Eagles Over Hellfest’ contains fourteen tracks. Two from Saxon’s latest release ‘Hell, Fire And Damnation (2024), being the title track and ,,Madame Guillotine” and twelve Saxon classic metal songs from the eighties. From Saxon’s second album ‘Wheels Of Steel’ you get the three masterpieces: ,,Motorcycle Man” (fast and furious), ,,747 (Strangers In The Night)” and the awesome title track. And it is good to hear that Biff still has a great throat!

HIGHLIGHT AFTER HIGHLIGHT

,,Heavy Metal Thunder” (where the crowd goes crazy..), ,,Dallas 1 PM” (my personal Saxon favourite) and ,,Strong Arm Of The Law”, all three from Saxon’s third studio album are again highlights of the set. Proving again that these ones belong to Saxon’s greatest metal anthems ever! ,,And The Bands Played On”, ,,Princess Of The Night” and ,,Denim And Leather”, all three from Saxon’s fourth studio album (1981) are other highlights of this 100% metal party! The successful ‘Power And The Glory’ album is represented by just two songs, being of course the wonderful title track and the live staple ,,The Eagle Has Landed”. ,,Crusader”, the title track of Saxon’s sixth studio album is another highlight of this essential, must have metal album.

SAXON – THE CONCLUSION

‘Eagles Over Hellfest’ highlights Saxon’s exemplary career, playing at 100% full speed, resulting in a fantastic live metal album and a legendary compilation of Saxon all-time highlights for sure!! So, this is a buy or die metal release of one of the best metal bands ever!! Of course, do NOT forget to play it LOUD and keep on banging those heads, guys, and dolls!
