Review | Teramaze – The Harmony Machine
Wells Music
Last year Down Under’s best prog metal band Teramaze released their glorious album ‘Eli: A Wonderful Fall From Grace’ and I was wondering if these guys could top that one or reach the same high musical level…. After a couple of spins of ‘The Harmony Machine’ I am glad to conclude that Teramaze’s 14th studio album is again 100% musical bliss pure.
CRUSHING AND CATCHY
‘The Harmony Machine’ contains nine tracks and it is probably the band’s heaviest song material so far, featuring crushing riffs and impressive hooks galore indeed! ,,Like A Cyborg” opens this album and the “catchy” guitar riffs and the beautiful vocal harmonies make this one THE perfect opening track for this amazing album. Follow up ,,Bullet To A Pharaoh” features a raw mid-tempo guitar riff and a really catchy chorus that only Teramaze can deliver! ,,Ending Of All,” their latest single, highlights the band’s progressive roots and the sound of this song is again very catchy indeed.
,,Perfect World” could best be described as a pop metal track, being more straightforward, but also with lots of energy and a soaring, smoking guitar solo, while ,,Sinister” is a darker song with lots of choppy riffs. The last two songs, also the longest, ,,Black Sound” and the title track definitely belong to the highlights of this album: featuring formidable vocal performances by Nathan Peachey and stunning guitar work by Dean Wells and Chris Zoupa.
TERAMAZE – THE CONCLUSION
The glorious title track, clocking in at almost nine minutes, is the best of Teramaze you can get, as they really deliver the prog metal goods here; meaning: extraordinary instrumental passages galore, ending this album in style indeed. Teramaze’s musical mix of Symphony X, Shadow Gallery, Dream Theater and Threshold has done it again as ‘The Harmony Machine’ is again a MUST have album for prog metal fans; needless to say, that you have to play it f…. LOUD!
